Abstract:

The Choghakhor International Wetland plays an important role in preserving and protection of part of the plant and animal species in the Iranian plateau. Since the water of this wetland is utilized for different human purposes, complete periodic chemical and physical quality assessment of its water seems necessary. Water quality index (WQI) was calculated using the following eleven parameters: Nitrate, Nitrite, Ammonium, Alkalinity, Hardness, Turbidity, Conductivity, Dissolved Oxygen, Total Dissolved Solid, pH and Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD5). For this purpose, the relative weight assigned to each parameter ranged from 1 to 4 based on the importance of the parameter for aquatic environment and human health. The analyses of variance (ANOVA) of data revealed significant differences between different periods of sampling (p < /em>

The study spatial and temporal changes of water quality in Choghakhor wetland using water quality index (WQI)

In order to investigation of water quality of the Choghakhor wetland by use of WQI, ten stations were selected. Sampling was done every 45 days since April 2010 until March 2011 with 3 replications at each station. Water Quality Index (WQI) was calculated using nine water quality parameters (Nitrate, Nitrite, Alkalinity, Hardness, Turbidity, Conductivity, Dissolved Oxygen, pH and Biochemical Ox...

Assessment of water quality in Blinaja River Basin (Kosovo) using the Canadian Water Quality Index (WQI)

Kosovo has limited natural water resources which should be well managed. This is recently realised through quantitative and qualitative monitoring of both surface and groundwater and by characterizing their quality according to their destination. In this paper, the Water Quality Index (WQI) developed by the Canadian Council of Environment Ministers (CCME WQI) was applied to evaluate the groundw...

Developing a Water Quality Index (WQI) for an Irrigation Dam

Pollution levels have been increasing in water ecosystems worldwide. A water quality index (WQI) is an available tool to approximate the quality of water and facilitate the work of decision-makers by grouping and analyzing numerous parameters with a single numerical classification system. The objective of this study was to develop a WQI for a dam used for irrigation of about 5000 ha of agricult...

Assessment of Groundwater quality using Water Quality Index

Fifty sampling stations have been identified and water samples were collected from June to May 2008, to know the groundwater quality of Greater Visakhapatnam city using Water Quality Index. The samples were analyzed for the physico-chemical parameters like Temperature, pH, Conductivity, Total dissolved solids, Dissolved Oxygen, Hardness, Calcium, Magnesium, Alkalinity, Chloride and Nitrate. The...
